Benefits of the Applications Register

This online service offers a single source of information about all the application software products, and their suppliers, that public sector bodies use in over 150 functional areas.

Although the service originated for local government, it has now been extended to cover the whole of local public services, including police, fire and housing services, and the whole of the third sector.

Public sector bodies who update their records regularly receive in return free access to the online service.

Suppliers gain access by subscribing to the service.

Public sector contributors

By making information available through the applications software you use and your plans for replacing it, you can help reduce escalating numbers of Freedom of Information (Fol) requests made by suppliers in search of this information.

If you do not update your records regularly, you can only gain access through a subscription to the service.

The Application Register can be used to identify how well products perform against competitors and which products are highly regarded within local authorities and other public services.

Local authorities and others are able to rank the performance of each software product and its supplier according to six criteria:

  • Functionality
  • Reliability
  • Integration services
  • Supplier - technical support
  • Supplier - after sales
  • Supplier – communication

Socitm has invested in this new service, because it firmly believes that its members should have access at their desk-tops to this valuable source of data, but ultimately the quality of service depends on you, how you use the service and how committed you are to update your product and organisational data.

Private sector suppliers

By using the service you will be able to find out what your customers think of your products (views not attributed), your competitors’ products and your potential customers’ buying intentions over the next year.

Technology companies can promote their products and services on the Application Register by giving each, a description which is uploaded.

They can also provide a hot linked company logo (Tier 1, £795 per year) and optionally 150 words on the supplier page with one downloadable case study or link to multiple case studies on corporate website (Tier 2 £1,295 per year).
